A mixture of brominated diphenylethanes is prepared by the bromination of diphenylethanes, which comprises hexabromodiphenylethane, heptabromodiphenylethane and octabromodiphenylethane, which comprises from about 55% by weight to about 85% by weight of hexabromodjfenjletane in the total mixture of brominated diphenylethanes, and comprising approximately 0.01% by weight to approximately 30% by weight of a compound wherein odd number bromines are substituted in diphenylethanes. The mixture of brominated diphenylethanes can optimize compatibility with polymeric resins, providing excellent flame retardance, and obtaining better weather resistance and better thermal stability. |
