abstract The present invention relates to a receptacle having an interior surrounded by a container body formed of two layers of different material. The inner layer is soluble in the presence of a selected solvent while the outer layer, which is supported by the inner layer, is formed from a material that is insoluble in the presence of the solvent. The inner layer can be particularly soluble in either hot or cold water and specifically can be formed from polyvinyl alcohol. The outer layer may be in the form of a fragmentable cover that joins the inner layer and is formed of a water insoluble material. The container body may additionally include an intermediate layer interposed between the inner and outer layers. A method for removing chemical waste from a container is also provided. The method comprises contacting the inner layer of the container body with sufficient amount of water to dissolve the inner layer.
