MIMETIC PEPTIDES OF CARBOHYDRATES AND THEIR EMPLOYMENT IN PHARMACEUTICAL FORMULATIONS. |
abstract |
The present invention is related to the pharmaceutical industry and biotechnology, more specifically to vaccine antigens applied against bacterial, viral, cancerous, or other diseases; development of formulations capable of protecting or elevating the protective spectrum of existing vaccines and extending it against different pathogens, using carbohydrates formed by repeated units of (? 2-8) N-substituted neuraminic acid as a target for the immune response; Peptides were isolated and identified as molecular mimetics of the capsular polysaccharide of Neisseria meningitidis serogroup B, consisting of repeated units of (? -28) N-acetylated neuraminic acid; the immunogenicity of the peptides was evaluated in animal biomodels, demonstrating their value as antibody inducing antigens capable of specifically recognizing N. meningitidis of serogroup B and showing bactericidal activity against it; The formulations resulting from this invention are applicable in the pharmaceutical industry as vaccine formulations for human use. |
