The present invention relates to the use of N- (4-Pyridylalkyl) methylsulfonamides to combat arthropod pests (harmful arthropods) and to protect materials against infestation and / or destruction by such pests: (see formula) where the substituents have the following meanings : R1 is hydrogen, C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-aloxy, C2-C4-alkanoyl, C2-C4-alkanoyl or benzyl; R2, R3, R4, R5 mean, independently of each other, hydrogen, halogen, C1-C4-alkyl, C1-c4-alkoxy, C1-C4-haloalkoxy or C1-C4-haloalkyl; R2 and R3 or R4 and R5 can form together with the carbon atoms to which a condensed hydrocarbon ring of five or six members is attached, whose ring can carry one or two groups R2 ,, R3 ,; R2 ,, R3, independently of each other, halogen, C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, halomethoxy or halomethyl; X is a cyclic radical, selected from: phenyl, naphthyl and a saturated aromatic heterocycle, partially unsaturated of five or six members, whose heterocycle is linked to the sulfur atom by means of a carbon atom and contains 1.2 or 4 heteroatoms selected from the group, comprising: O, N and S, the cyclic radical X being able to carry 1,2,3 or 4 Ra substituents. |
