abstract | The present invention discloses a process for the production of intermediates of the formula I (see formula (I)), in which the substituents are as defined herein. The process comprises the reaction of an aniline substituted with aqueous HX, followed by the removal of water by azeotropic distillation and diazotization and pyrolysis with an organic nitrite at elevated temperatures in the absence of a copper catalyst. On the other hand, gaseous HX can be used to replace the aqueous HX in the process. Consequently, the water removal step by azeotropic distillation can be eliminated. The intermediates of the formula I are suitable as intermediates in the preparation of 3-hydroxy-4-aryl-5-oxopyrazoline derivatives with herbicidal action. |
