titleOfInvention ABSORBENT COMPOUNDS CONTAINING BIODEGRADABLE REINFORCEMENT FIBERS.
abstract An absorbent compound contains a super absorbent material and thermoplastic biodegradable reinforcing fibers, and also contains pulp fibers. The super absorbent material can be biodegradable by providing a biodegradable absorbent compound. The super absorbent material can have a gel strength of from about 500 dynes per cm2 to about 80,000 dynes per cm2. Biodegradable reinforcing fibers may contain fibers of a polyester such as poly (lactic acid). Biodegradable reinforcing fibers can be wettable, reducing, or eliminating the need to treat the surface of the fibers with a wetting agent such as a surfactant, and can provide a desirable performance without being bound to the other components.
