abstract |
A polymer composition comprises a low molecular weight ethylene polymer component (LMW) and a high molecular weight ethylene polymer component (HMW) coupled with a polysulfonyl azide. Preferably, the low molecular weight polyethylene component and the high molecular weight polyethylene component are co-crystallized in the composition, such that it exhibits a single or substantially single peak in a lamellar thickness distribution curve (LTD ). The ethylene polymer for the low molecular weight and high molecular weight polyethylene components can be a homopolymer or an ethylene copolymer. Preferably, both components are an ethylene copolymer of the same or different composition (ie, with the same or different comonomers). A method of making a tube is described which includes selecting a polymer composition that has substantially a single peak in the lamellar thickness distribution curve. Compositions comprising a chromium-catalyzed ethylene polymer coupled with a polysulfonyl azide are also described herein. |
