abstract | The present invention relates to the method comprising anionic free radical emulsion polymerization, to form a latex comprising: A. copolymerizing from about 6 to 8 parts of at least one vinylaryl monomer having 8 to 10 atoms carbon and 1 to 3 parts of at least one dicarboxylic acid monomer that is selected from the group consisting of fumaric acid and itaconic acid to form a nucleus and then B. copolymerize about 40 to 60 parts of at least one vinyl aryl monomer having 8 to 10 carbon atoms, 60 to 40 parts of at least one conjugated diene monomer having 4 to 6 carbon atoms, 1.5 to 5.0 parts of at least one glycidyl monomer which is selected from the group consisting of glycidyl acrylate and glycidyl methacrylate and from 0 to 2.0 parts of at least one monocarboxylic acid, a monomer selected from the group consisting of ac acid rilic and methacrylic acid to form a shell where the polymer core composition comprises from about 7.5 to 10.5 parts and where the shell comprises from about 92.5 to 89.5 parts, all parts of the monomers are added up to about 100 parts. |
