The present invention relates to a process for preparing alkanesulfonic acids and alkanesulfonyl chloride, which comprises contacting an alkanothiol, a dialkyl disulfide or an alkyl alkantiosulfonate mixed in aqueous hydrochloric acid with hydrogen peroxide, to produce the alkanesulfonic acid or the corresponding alkanesulfonyl chloride. |
