To economically and stably produce a derivative having the structure of 2-acylaminopyridine represented by the formula (i) in an amount required as a pest control agent, this invention utilizes a method of producing a compound represented by formula (b) by acylation of the amino group at the 2-position of a compound represented by the formula (a) with an acylating agent [where, ar is a phenyl group or a heterocycle having or 6-membered, r1 is a C1-C6 alkyl group, and y is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a hydroxyl group, a C1-C6 alkyl group which may be substituted by a halogen atom, a C 1 -C 6 alkoxy group which may be substituted by a halogen atom, a cyano group, a formyl group, or a nitro group]. A process further comprising alkylating the nitrogen atom at the 1-position of the compound represented by the formula (b) is also described. |
