| abstract | The invention relates to a composition containing at least one iron-chelating compound and at least one antifungal agent. The composition may contain iron chelating compounds, deferiprone or deferasirox. An antifungal agent incorporated in the composition may include a polyene antifungal agent, an azole antifungal agent or an echinocandin antifungal agent. The invention also relates to a method for treating or preventing a fungal condition, which comprises administering to or having an individual suffering from a fungal condition a therapeutically effective amount of at least one iron chelating compound. for a time sufficient to reduce the severity of a fungal state, wherein the iron chelating compound comprises a non-siderophore or a non-xenosiderophore relative to the fungal state. A method of treating or preventing a fungal condition according to the invention comprises administering to an individual suffering from, or being predisposed to, a fungal condition a therapeutically effective amount of at least one iron-chelating compound and at least one antifungal agent. The invention also relates to a method which comprises the prophylactic administration of the at least one iron-chelating compound and the at least one antifungal agent prior to initiation of the fungal condition. |
