titleOfInvention A technique and a device for the continuous extraction of metallic titanium and its alloys
abstract The invention relates to non-ferrous metallurgy, in particular to processes for the continuous production of metallic titanium and titanium alloys by thermal reduction of titanium tetrachloride, as well as to installations for the production of metallic titanium or its alloys. The proposed process for the continuous production of metallic titanium and its alloys is characterized by simultaneous reduction of titanium tetrachloride with a metal-reducing agent and melting of the obtained porous titanium, in addition it is carried out in a vacuum or protective atmosphere in a suitably equipped electric arc furnace or by means of an electronic beam, or plasma or laser radiation. In order to implement the titanium tetrachloride reduction reaction using Na or an alloy of the reducing agent, the apparatus is designed as an electric arc furnace (1) with a cooled housing, which is actually a cooled crystallizer (2) and connected to the vacuum pump (14). equipped with usable or non-usable electrodes (18) made of titanium or titanium alloy. The apparatus is also equipped with: a towing device (15) which allows the rod (9) to be pulled out of the obtained titanium or titanium alloy and to operate in a reversible manner, thereby changing the volume of the reaction zone (3) in the crystallizer (2); said electrode feeder device (4), which, by means of control apparatus, utilizes a three-phase AC power source for generating an electric arc, depending on the liquid metal level in the bath and adjusting the arc power. Alternatively, the same effect can be achieved by using two single-phase alternating current sources connected to an open triangle circuit as well as two or more electrodes (18) to generate an electric arc. Also, when using DC power, you can not only achieve this effect, but also maintain the polarity.
