abstract | Compsn. is in the form of non-compressed tablet unit doses of density less than 1, so that it floats in the gastric fluid, in vivo. The tablets comprise a matrix formed from a gelling agent (I), contg. a therapeutic agent (II); a therapeutically acceptable inert oil (III) and water. (I) is 0.5-4% (III) is 8-30%; (II) is 50-75% and the balance water (all by wt.). Pref. (I) is theophylline (Ia) (a bronchodilator for treating asthma); (II) is gelose and (III) a light mineral oil of density 0.828-0.880. |
