abstract 867,939. Coated metallic fabrics. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. July 21, 1958 [Aug. 1, 1957], No. 23365/58. Addition to 849,837. Class 140. A porous membrane is produced by coating a corrosion resistant metallic fabric with a moist paste containing fluorohydrocarbon, or chlorofluorohydrocarbon polymers, or halogen substituted hydrocarbon greases, or waxes, and subjecting the fabric thus coated to an adhering treatment in particular by rolling, said paste containing as a plasticizer liquid paraffin per se or in solution in a solvent such as benzene. The plasticizer may be incorporated in an emulsion of polytetrafluoroethylene and the emulsion coagulated by acetone, the precipitate formed constituting the paste to be applied to the fabric, or the plasticizer may be intimately mixed with a powder of polytetrafluoroethylene, the mixture thus obtained constituting the paste. The paste may be formed by intimately mixing 100 gm. polytetrafluoroethylene powder, 20 to 60 c.c. liquid paraffin per se, or from 40 to 80 c.c. of a solution containing from 50 to 80% of liquid paraffin in benzene. The plasticizer may be eliminated by dripping, drying and/or washing with a suitable solvent, e.g. benzene. The metallic fabric may be a very fine nickel grid which may be obtained by electrolytic deposition.
