abstract The present invention relates to biocidal roofing granules for coating bituminous-polymeric roofing materials, in particular shingles, in order to prevent the infection and growth of algae and fungi. Biocidal roofing granules have a crushed mineral base and are coated with one, two or more ceramic layers consisting of kaolin, liquid glass and a biocide. The biocide used in the coating is a copper-zinc alloy brass powder with a particle size in the range of 5 to 75 µm and a zinc content of 15 to 30% by weight at a biocide content of 4.5 kg to 60 kg per tonne of base material.
