titleOfInvention | COLLAGEN TREATMENT APPARATUS |
abstract | A method and apparatus for achieving controlled thermal contraction of collagen tissue by irradiating with a cohesive energy of wavelength bands 1.8 to 2.55 microns generated by a laser is described. Humanly, a specific application for corneal remodeling has been described. In the contraction method of collagen tissue by application of coherent infrared energy, the critical shrinkage temperature is substantially reduced by supplying a reagent such as tissue erysozyme before heating. The method is particularly useful for ophthalmologically modifying the shape of the cornea and is enhanced by using corneal collagen shields for reagents and mixed anesthetics and as carriers. |
