titleOfInvention | Inhibition of cholesterol biosynthesis using genistein |
abstract | The present invention relates to a method for inhibiting biosynthesis of cholester using genistein (5,7-dihydroxy-3- (4-hydroxyphenyl) -4H-1-benzopyran-4-one). More specifically, the present invention relates to a method of inhibiting biosynthesis of cholester by using genistein, which inhibits the activity of squalene synthase, which is a rate controlling step in the cholesterol biosynthesis process. Genistein has a concentration-dependent activity of inhibiting squalene synthetase. Thus, inhibiting cholesterol biosynthesis with genistein promotes the synthesis of LDL-cholesterol receptors, resulting in lower blood cholesterol levels. In addition, Genistein may be developed as a medicament in earnest by clinical trials and may be used as a prophylactic and therapeutic agent for cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease. |
