abstract The present invention relates to a water-insoluble amphipathic copolymer prepared from 50 to 90% by weight of at least one ethylenically-unsaturated hydrophobic monomer and 10 to 50% by weight of at least one copolymerizable water-soluble ethylenically-unsaturated acidic or basic hydrophilic comonomer To provide an aqueous composition containing an aqueous dispersion of silicone oil emulsified with water and used to waterproof the leather. Wherein the weight average molecular weight of the copolymer is from 2,000 to 100,000 and the weight ratio of the silicone oil to the amphipathic copolymer is from 1: 5 to 8: 1. Also provided is a method of waterproofing a skin using the aqueous composition.
