abstract The present invention relates to a coated magnetic recording medium comprising a non-magnetic support, a primer layer formed on the non-magnetic support, and an upper magnetic layer formed on the primer layer. The primer layer and the upper magnetic layer comprise polyurethane resin and polyvinyl chloride resin as binders. The weight ratio of polyurethane resin to polyvinyl chloride resin in the primer layer is 70:30 to 90:10, and the weight ratio of polyurethane resin to polyvinyl chloride resin in the upper magnetic layer is 20:80 to 40:60. The present invention also relates to a method for producing a coated magnetic recording medium.
