abstract The present invention is directed to reacting at least one compound (A) containing on average one or more adjacent epoxide groups per molecule with at least one nitro or nitroso group per molecule and at least one compound containing one reactive hydrogen atom on average It relates to an adduct prepared, which is terminated with a nitro or nitroso group and which contains at least one mesogenic moiety, provided that at least one of components (A) and (B) contains a mesogenic moiety. The adduct is reduced to provide amines, which are useful curing agents for epoxy resins.
