abstract | The present invention provides a constant and essentially continuous soaking of the surface of the support with the solvated magnesium compound, under conditions consistent with the initial precipitation conditions and the support material to allow the magnesium compound to form a constant and essentially continuous distribution on the support, A novel catalyst support and a method for producing the same are characterized by the presence of a selected amount of magnesium-containing compound that is hydrocarbon soluble in the support. The drying step under these conditions is effective to keep the effective surface area and pupil volume of the material high. The support containing adsorbed magnesium is dried in a controlled form of intrinsic initial immersion conditions to provide the support with magnesium levels of 1-5 molecular monolayers of dense network. Disclosed are representative olefin polymerization or copolymerization processes that provide stereospecific polymers such as propylene. |
