abstract The present invention relates to 1-substituted, 2-substituted 1H-imidazo [4,5-c] quinolin-4-amine compounds of formula (I):n n n n n n n n In formula (I), X is alkoxy, alkoxyalkyl, haloalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkyl amido, amino, substituted amino or hydroxyalkyl (substituents are alkyl, azido, chloro, hydroxy, 1-mo Polyno, 1-pyrrolidino, and alkylthio).n n n These compounds function as antiviral agents, induce interferon biosynthesis, and inhibit tumor formation in animal models. The invention also provides an intermediate for preparing the compound, a pharmaceutical composition containing the compounds, and a pharmacological method of using the compounds.
