abstract |
Disclosed herein are additives for paint or stain compositions or colorant compositions. The additive is polymerized from one or more acrylate monomers and a chain transfer agent. The additive has a weight molecular weight of about 2,000 daltons to about 5,000 daltons, and the chain transfer agent comprises hydrogen-sulfur functionality and is present in a range of about 8 to about 20 parts per 100 parts monomer. The glass transition temperature of the additive ranges from about -50°C to about -10°C and the additive is hydrophobic. The additive is added to the colorant composition to minimize tip drying in the colorant canister and is added to the paint or stain composition as an open time extender. |
