abstract Separation elements comprising microfluidic channels may use hydrodynamic separators or flow routing elements to separate particles in a fluid. A particle sensor can be used to count particles in each microfluidic channel. To enable the use of a shared particle sensor for multiple microfluidic channels, a unique orifice pattern can be used. Separation elements may be used in a variety of systems, such as engine fuel systems, bulk fuel systems, hydraulic particulate filters, and hydraulic degassing intensifiers.
