abstract Reactive ammonium carboxylate salts, polyamide amic acid oligomers, and polyamideimide oligomers include at least one aromatic diamine, at least one aromatic 2-, 3-, or 4-functional carboxylic acid or functional equivalent thereof, and at least one of crosslinkable monomers or crosslinkable end-cappers. The crosslinkable monomer or crosslinkable end-capper is reactive with at least one aromatic diamine or at least one 2-, 3- or 4-functional carboxylic acid or functional equivalent thereof and is reactive with chain extension after formation of the polyamideimide oligomer and It has at least one unreacted functional group capable of crosslinking. The reactive polyamide amic acid and polyamideimide oligomers have a number average molecular weight (M n ) of from about 1,000 to about 10,000 g/mol calculated using the Carothers equation. Reactive ammonium carboxylate salts, polyamide amic acid oligomers, and polyamideimide oligomers are useful in a wide variety of functional materials, methods of manufacture, and articles.
