abstract The present invention relates to a process for producing lyocell staple fibers comprising the steps of the following sequence: a) extruding a filament from a cellulose solution dissolved in an organic solvent; b) precipitating the cellulose to form continuous cellulosic filaments; c) washing the cellulose filament; d) contacting the cellulosic filaments with a crosslinking agent; e) reacting the cellulose filaments with the crosslinking agent in a reaction chamber; f) washing the treated cellulose filament; g) cutting the washed cellulose filaments into staple fibers; h) forming a non-woven fleece from the staple fibers and compressing the non-woven fleece; i) finishing the nonwoven fleece and compressing the nonwoven fleece.
