Phosphor-containing drug activators, suspensions thereof, systems containing the suspensions, and methods of use |
abstract |
Phosphor containing drug activators and suspensions thereof are provided. The suspension comprises at least two or more phosphors capable of emitting ultraviolet and visible light when interacting with x-rays. The two or more phosphors are Zn 2 SiO 4 :Mn 2 + and (3Ca 3 (PO 4 ) 2 Ca(F, Cl) 2 : Sb 3 + , Mn 2 + ), wherein each of the two phosphors has an ethylene cellulose coating and/or a diamond-like carbon coating. The suspension further comprises a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. A system for treating a disease in a subject in need thereof comprises a) said suspension, b) a photoactivatable containing 8-methoxypsoralene (8-MOP or UVADEX) unbound with said two or more phosphors. a drug, c) one or more devices for injecting said photoactivatable drug comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and said suspension into a lesion site in a subject, and d) delivering a dose of x-rays to said subject so that the an x-ray source that is modulated to activate a photoactivatable drug by generating ultraviolet and visible light, and methods of treating a disease using the system. |
