A system for minimizing perceived pain and reducing the need for opioid analgesics by inducing a Pavlovian association of scent with a state of sub-moderate pain. The system includes at least a physiological sensor configured to detect at least one physiological parameter of the user. The user's physiological parameters may include heart rate variability, blood pressure, galvanic skin response, movement, facial expression, and the like. After detection of the physiological parameter, an activation signal is then sent to an automatically activated fragrance diffuser, which diffuses the fragrance as a function of the electronic activation signal. Activation of the fragrance diffuser is maintained by a control circuit that receives a detection signal from the at least one physiological sensor, confirms that the user has transitioned to a state of less than moderate pain, and transmits the signal to the automatically activated fragrance diffuser. . |
