The present invention relates to a method for preparing a porous material, comprising the steps of: providing a mixture (I) comprising a composition (A) comprising a component suitable for forming an organic gel and a solvent (B); at least comprising the steps of reacting in the presence of B) to form a gel, and drying the gel obtained in step b), wherein the composition (A) comprises a catalyst component selected from the group consisting of ammonium salts and phosphonium salts ( C1), and a catalyst system (CS) comprising at least an acid comprising phosphor-containing acid groups as catalyst component (C2). The present invention further relates to porous materials obtainable in this way, and as thermal insulation and in vacuum insulation panels and vacuum insulation systems, in particular for insulation of indoor or outdoor insulation systems as well as refrigerators and freezers and insulation systems for water tanks or ice machines.
