The present invention discloses a population of T cells expressing a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR), wherein the T cells are placental T cells derived from umbilical cord blood, placental perfusate, or mixtures thereof. Such populations of cells appear to be improved in many respects over alternative populations of cells, such as those derived from peripheral blood mononuclear T cells. The invention also discloses a method of treating a cancer, such as a hematologic cancer, eg, a B cell cancer, or a symptom thereof, in a patient in need thereof. Such methods comprise administering to the patient an amount of a population of T cells of any one of the inventions effective to ameliorate the cancer or symptoms thereof in the patient. |
