The present disclosure relates to compositions, solutions and methods for extending the shelf life of food compositions. For example, the present disclosure relates to a food composition or solution comprising silk fibroin. In some examples, the composition may be coated with a layer of silk fibroin. The present disclosure also relates to a method of preparing a food composition. The method comprises spray-coating, dip-coating, or mixing a piece of silk fibroin with a food composition. |
