abstract The present invention relates to a method of treating lyocell fibers comprising contacting the fibers with at least one treatment medium, wherein the at least one treatment medium comprises a small amount of a crosslinking agent, wherein the crosslinking agent is cellulose under alkaline conditions. It is characterized in that it can crosslink and has a water solubility of 20 g/l or less at 20° C., comprising the step of treating the fiber with a cross-linking agent under alkaline conditions, wherein the cross-linking agent is added to the fibers in a suspension or solid form. The present invention relates to a lyocell fiber obtainable by the method of the present invention.
