abstract | Compositions described herein and methods of using the same include methods of treating or preventing sepsis in a subject, including methods of prolonging the survival of an individual suffering from sepsis and methods of reducing organ failure or organ failure due to sepsis . A method of treating or preventing sepsis in a subject comprises administering a composition comprising early apoptotic cells or an early apoptotic cell supernatant. The compositions and methods of their use can reduce the negative pro-inflammatory effects associated with sepsis. It can also reduce the release of anti-inflammatory cytokines. In certain instances, the composition may include additional agents. |
