abstract A process for preparing 1,4-bis(4-phenoxybenzoyl)benzene comprising: - providing a solvent, a Lewis acid, a first reactant and a second reactant, wherein the first reactant and the second reactant are terephthaloyl chloride and diphenyl ether, respectively, or vice versa; - mixing the first reactant in a solvent to prepare a starting mixture; and - adding a second reactant to the starting mixture, a second reactant is added to the starting mixture after the Lewis acid has been at least partially mixed into the starting mixture; Lewis acid is at least partially mixed with the second reactant and mixed together into the starting mixture, 1,4-bis(4-phenoxybenzoyl)benzene-Lewis acid complex, wherein the temperature of the starting mixture is greater than 5° C. during at least a portion of the step of adding a second reactant to the starting mixture. A method for obtaining a mixture is disclosed. A method for preparing a polyaryletherketone polymer starting from 1,4-bis(4-phenoxybenzoyl)benzene prepared by the above method is disclosed.
