The present invention relates to compounds of formula (I) which are suitable as monomers for preparing thermoplastic resins with advantageous optical properties and which can be used to prepare optical devices: wherein A 1 , A 2 are selected from monocyclic or bicyclic aromatic radicals and monocyclic or bicyclic heteroaromatic radicals, X represents for example a single bond, O, NH, CR 6 R 7 , Y is for example absent or represents a single bond, O, NH, CR 8 R 9 ; R 1 , R 2 are hydrogen, the radical Ar′ or the radical R a ; R 3 is Alk, O-Alk'-, O-Alk'-[O-Alk'] o , O-CH 2 -Ar-C(O)-, OC(O)-Ar-C(O)- or O-Alk-C(O)-, wherein in the last 5 moieties the left O is bound to A 1 and A 2 respectively, and m, n is 0, 1 or 2; o is an integer from 1 to 10; R 4 , R 5 are for example selected from CN and the radical R a ; R 6 , R 8 are for example selected from hydrogen, the radical Ar′ and the radical R a ; R 7 , R 9 are for example selected from hydrogen, C 1 -C 4 -alkyl and the radical Ar′; R a is selected from the group consisting of C≡CR 11 and Ar-C≡CR 11 ; R 11 is for example selected from hydrogen, methyl, monocyclic or polycyclic aryl having 6 to 26 carbon atoms and monocyclic or polycyclic hetaryl having a total of 5 to 26 atoms, these atoms being ring members, wherein hetaryl 1, 2, 3 or 4 of the ring atoms of are selected from nitrogen, sulfur and oxygen, while the remainder of these atoms are carbon atoms, wherein monocyclic or polycyclic aryl is unsubstituted or substituted; Ar is, for example, phenylene or naphthylene. The present invention also relates to a thermoplastic resin comprising polymerized units of a compound of formula (I) and an optical device made of such resin. |
