The present invention provides a catalyst for a solid polymer fuel cell in which platinum, cobalt, and zirconium as catalyst metals are supported on a carbon powder support, wherein the ratio of the supported amounts of platinum, cobalt, and zirconium on the carbon powder support is Pt:Co in a molar ratio :Zr=3:0.5 to 1.5:0.1 to 3.0; relates to a catalyst for a polymer fuel cell. In the present invention, the peak positions of Pt 3 Co appearing in the X-ray diffraction pattern with respect to the catalyst particles are 2θ = 41.10° or more and 42.00° or less, and it is preferable that suitable alloying has occurred in the catalyst metal. |
