titleOfInvention | Blood biomarkers in stroke |
abstract | Stroke is a highly destructive disorder that significantly causes death, disability and health care costs. The current challenge is to prevent apoptosis in the later stages and expand the window of treatment using simultaneous therapy. A potential diagnostic method for diagnosing stroke is the use of RNA in the blood as a biomarker, a new emerging field in medicine. Here, the inventors study gene expression in brain and blood after the onset of cerebral ischemia. Studies of macaque microarray expression data from brain and blood show that ischemic and non-ischemic samples can be differentiated based on their expression profiles, and that the majority of highly differentially expressed genes are upregulated 6 hours post ischemia in the ischemia scenario. It turned out. As a result of comparison of genes differentially expressed in brain and blood, it was found that the gene expression patterns were significantly overlapped. The data indicated that a common signature exists between the ischemic brain and blood, which is used to profiling biopsy transcriptome expression characterizing patients with ischemic stroke to develop companion biomarkers for the evaluation of neuroprotective drugs in patients.
