titleOfInvention Method for producing dioxolane
abstract The present invention relates to a method for producing dioxolane by reacting ethylene glycol with an aqueous solution of formaldehyde in the presence of an acid catalyst. The crude product comprising water, dioxolane and methanol is fed to the phase separation unit 20 in which the organic extractant is present. The organic fraction stream from the phase separation unit is passed to the top of the purification column 30, where dioxolane is withdrawn as a bottoms product, while the distillate stream of the purification column is recycled to the phase separation unit. The aqueous fraction stream from the phase separation unit is sent to the wastewater column 40, the wastewater stream from the bottom of the wastewater column is discharged, and the distillate stream 42 from the wastewater column is recycled to the phase separation unit, and A side stream 43 containing methanol exits from the stage below the feed stage.
