titleOfInvention Wireless or sonic wave detectors, transmitters, receivers and methods therefor
abstract Continuous wave, frequency varying array (FDA) detectors, transmitters, receivers and/or methods are disclosed. The frequencies may be radio waves or sonic waves. Different frequencies are applied to each transmitter element to create transmission techniques with repetitive patterns of constructive interference (eg, each pattern may be helical). The patterns differ from the timing of the reflected signal as a result of each, to a sufficient degree that the azimuth and/or range of the object can be determined, regardless of whether the object/target is in view (e.g., to determine the azimuth angle). Opposite helix directions to help, or other helix rotation speeds to help determine the range). The use of continuous wave transmissions enables lower transmission powers and/or avoids requiring expensive beam-steering transmitters or receivers.
