The present invention relates to the use of one or more specific dihydroisoquinolinium salts for treating keratin materials, in particular keratin fibers, in particular human keratin fibers, such as hair. The invention also relates to a method for treating keratin materials using the salt and optionally one or more chemical oxidizing agents. The subject matter of the invention is also a composition for lightening keratin materials, the composition comprising at least one dihydroisoquinolinium salt and at least one chemical oxidizing agent. The invention also relates to one or more specific dihydroisoquinolinium salts and also to compositions containing them, in particular to compositions comprising a physiologically acceptable medium.
