The present disclosure provides borate or aluminate activators comprising a cation having a linear alkyl group, a catalyst system comprising the same, and a method of polymerizing olefins using such activators. In particular, the present disclosure provides an activator compound represented by the formula [R 1 R 2 R 3 EH] d + [M k+ Q n ] d- , wherein E is nitrogen or phosphorus; d is 1, 2 or 3; k is 1, 2, or 3; n is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6; n-k = d; R 1 is a C 1 -C 20 linear alkyl group; Each of R 2 and R 3 is a C 1 -C 40 linear alkyl group, a meta- and/or para-substituted phenyl group, an alkoxy group, a silyl group, a halogen, or a halogen containing group, wherein R 1 +R 2 +R 3 >15 carbon atoms; M is an element selected from Group 13, typically B or Al; Each Q is independently a hydride, crosslinked or non-crosslinked dialkylamido, halide, alkoxide, allyloxide, hydrocarbyl, substituted hydrocarbyl, halocarbyl, substituted halocarbyl, or halo substituted hydrocarbyl radical. And, provided that when Q is a fluorophenyl group, R 2 is not a C 1 -C 40 linear alkyl group. |
