Polymer materials comprising uretdione-containing materials, 2-part compositions, and methods |
abstract |
The present invention provides a polymer material comprising a reaction product of a polymerizable composition and having a solids content of at least 90%. The polymerizable composition comprises a uretdione-containing material comprising a reaction product produced by the reaction of the diisocyanate itself, a first hydroxyl-containing compound having a single OH group, and a second hydroxyl- having more than one OH group. Contains compounds. The first hydroxyl-containing compound is a primary alcohol or a secondary alcohol, the second hydroxyl-containing compound is a diol, and the reaction product contains 0.2 to 0.5 (including the end point) diol equivalent relative to the isocyanate equivalent do. The present invention also provides a two-part composition wherein the polymeric material is included in the first part and the second part comprises at least one amine. In addition, a method of adhering two substrates is provided, the method comprising obtaining a two-part composition; Combining at least a portion of the first part with at least a portion of the second part to form a mixture; Placing at least a portion of the mixture on a first substrate; And contacting a second substrate with the mixture disposed on the first substrate. The present invention also provides a polymeric material and a method of making a two-part composition. Advantageously, the two-part composition according to the present invention can be used as a coating and adhesive system that has similar handling and performance to conventional two-part urethane systems but with less sensitivity to water. |
