The present invention relates to a composition for an optical material capable of producing an ultra-high refractive optical material having a refractive index of 1.66 to 1.82 and a method for manufacturing the optical material using the same. In the present invention, a composition for an episulfide-based optical material having a refractive index of 1.66 to 1.82 is provided, comprising an episulfide compound represented by Chemical Formula 1 below, a polythiol compound having a sulfur content of at least 68% by weight, and a polymerization catalyst.
