titleOfInvention Method for polymerizing cyclic oligomer of polyamide
abstract A method of making a high molecular weight polyamide polymer, such as a 6/66 copolymer, using a reactant stream comprising at least one lactam and a cyclic oligomer. The stream is reacted with at least one diamine at elevated temperature to open the cyclic oligomer to produce an amide pre-polymer end-capped with amine groups. The pre-polymer is then reacted with at least one diacid at elevated temperature to form a polyamide 6/66 copolymer. Cyclic oligomers can be formed as a byproduct during standard polymerization of polyamide polymers from monomers such as caprolactam, hexamethylene diamine and adipic acid.
