abstract The present invention relates to a process for producing spherical polysilsesquioxane particles. According to the method, in the first step, general formula (I) RSi (OR 1 ) 3 The trialkoxysilane of (I) is reacted with acidified water having a pH of 6 or less to give a hydrolyzate, wherein in formula (I), R is a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 16 carbon atoms, Non-adjacent —O— groups may be interrupted in the carbon chain, and R 1 is a C 1 -to C 4 -alkyl group; In the second step, the hydrolyzate is mixed with a solution of base in water or C 1 -to C 4 -alkanol; In a third step, the mixture is stored for 30 minutes to 6 hours; In a fourth step, the mixture is mixed with an additional solution of base in water or C 1 -to C 4 -alkanol; In a fifth step, the mixture is stirred for at least 5 minutes; In a sixth step, polysilsesquioxane particles are isolated.
