Scalable Inductor Sheath for Medical Devices |
abstract |
The expandable medical sheath may include a sheath body having a lumen extending between the proximal and distal ends of the sheath. The sheath may have first and second members, where the first member has a different modulus of elasticity than the second member, so that one provides elasticity to the sheath and the other provides column strength. The first member and the second member may be joined to each other in alternating sections to form a tubular sheath or the rigid member may be embedded in the elastic member along all or part of the longitudinal length of the sheath. The sheath can be automatically moved to its expanded state to allow the larger diameter medical device to pass through the lumen, and once through the sheath can be automatically returned to its initial diameter. |
