abstract The present invention relates to a catalyst for a solid polymer fuel cell in which catalyst particles containing platinum and transition metal M are supported on a carbon powder carrier. The catalyst of the present invention is a catalyst whose molar ratio (Pt / M) of the platinum and the transition metal M constituting the catalyst particles is 2.5 or more, and is measured by the platinum specific surface area (S COMSA ) measured by the CO adsorption method and the BET method. A catalyst for a solid polymer fuel cell, wherein the ratio S COMSA / S BET of the specific surface area S BET is 0.26 or more and 0.32 or less. This catalyst can be prepared by preparing the alloy catalyst, washing the alloy catalyst with a platinum compound solution, and supplementing platinum on the surface of the catalyst particles.
