titleOfInvention Applicator and Application Method
abstract The invention relates in particular to an applicator for applying a coating (eg sealant) to the components (9,10) for sealing or engaging the flange joint (8) of the vehicle body components (9, 10) of an automobile. . The applicator according to the invention first has a nozzle 7 for dispensing the coating in a particular spraying direction on the component surface of the components 9, 10 to be coated. The applicator also has a nozzle carrier 2 for positioning the nozzle 7. The nozzle carrier 2 comprises a plurality of legs 3-6 which are hollow at least a part of their length to pass through the coating and which are disposed behind one another and inclined with respect to one another. The nozzle 7 is arranged on the nozzle carrier 2, in particular on the distal leg 6 of the nozzle carrier 2. The present invention provides a spacer (11) which rests on the surface of the components (9, 10) projecting from the distal leg (6) and covered on the surface to be coated in the spraying operation, which spacer is external to the nozzle carrier (2). It is mounted on and thereby sets a predetermined application distance a between the nozzle 7 and the component surface.
