abstract The present invention provides a method in which acetic acid having a good potassium permanganate test value can be efficiently produced industrially with no high cost. In the method for producing acetic acid of the present invention, an agent for recycling at least a portion of an aqueous phase and / or an organic phase condensed with the first overheads obtained in a carbonylation reaction step, an evaporation step, a deaeration ratio step, and a deaeration ratio step to a reaction tank. A method for producing acetic acid having one overheads recycling step, characterized by controlling the crotonaldehyde concentration in the first acetic acids obtained in the deaeration ratio step to 2.2 mass ppm or less. The catalyst system may further contain an ionic iodide. Moreover, the said acetic acid manufacturing method may further have an acetaldehyde separation removal process for distilling at least one part of the water phase and / or the organic phase which condensed the 1st overheads, and separating and removing acetaldehyde.
