abstract |
The composite membrane comprises a polymeric material that is selectively permeable to heavy (C 3+ ) hydrocarbons relative to methane. The polymeric material may be a modified poly (dimethylsilane) having a backbone comprising dimethylsiloxane monomers, substituted methylsiloxane monomers, and internal-network monomers. Substituted methylsiloxane monomers may include phenylmethylsiloxane monomers or C 5 -C 10 alkylmethylsiloxane monomers such as octylmethylsiloxane monomers. The polymeric material may include silicon-alkyl linkages such as Si— (CH 2 ) n —Si where n ≧ 2, which may produce structures that impart desirable permeability and selectivity properties for the composite membrane. . The polymeric material can be cast on the porous support material. The composite membrane can be integrated into a system or method for removing heavy hydrocarbons from natural gas. |
